Costs of Living
How can I find a place of living in Germany?
You should try to make arrangements for your accommodation in Germany in your home country already. In principle, you have three possibilities: You can try to find a place in a dormitory, rent an apartment or share one.
Most dormitories are administered by the respective city's "Studentenwerk" (Student Service). Procedures vary, but mostly you can apply online.
The Studentenwerk also offers a particularly useful service for international students: Many (but not all) Student Services sell "Service Sets" for foreign students. These sets can be booked via the Internet before you come to Germany. In general, a Service Set will include accommodation, meals and health insurance. This guarantees that you have a place to live when you arrive in Germany.
If you would like to share an apartment (so called "WG"), you can very easily search on the internet. In general, like everywhere else in the world, it is recommendable to take a look at the apartment as well as your future flatmates before you make advance payments or sign a contract.
